About the Project

Sankalp Gwala is a contemporary residential interior design project that combines deep green upholstery, warm wood tones, and neutral surfaces to create an interior that is calm and lived in. The interiors incorporate a balance of rich colours with lighter walls and flooring to allow the furniture and wall details to carry the interest of the spaces without overwhelming them.

In the living area, a large deep green sectional anchors the space along with mustard cushions, a textured round ottoman, and layered cushions with earth tones. A large, light-toned rug anchors the seating. Window treatments in a neutral tone provide depth to the windows. Behind the sectional is a wood panel with a decorative round mirror. The living area offers a layered lighting scheme that incorporates warm cove lighting, recessed ceiling lights, and a table lamp. During the day and evening this creates an immediate and welcoming space.

The adjacent space provides a framework for a more elaborate wall treatment that incorporates vertical grain wood and a woven wall hanging. This treatment integrates the dining counter and kitchen. The bedroom continues the palette with wood and muted green, while the bed linens are white to further accent the space.

The Sankalp Gwala project focuses on a well-thought-out use of colour and texture. The use of deep green highlights the interiors and helps create a distinct identity, while natural wood tones, beige, mustard and terracotta help keep the interiors warm. The spaces have been created with textured cushions along with rush and smash weave along with decorative pieces placed in key positions. These help to maintain the clean background.

Lighting also helps create balance. The use of recessed ceiling fixtures provides the function of lighting, while warm cove lighting helps provide a layer of light and draw focus on the architectural details. Overall, the design is comfortable while being personal and composed.
